Kinship Retreats
Kinship Retreats are at the heart of Kinwell and a regular part of it. Long weekends in nature connect our hearts and minds to each other and our Creator like nothing else can, and our students often have these experiences for the first time in their lives. Below is an example of what these trips look like.
Hocking Hills March 2021
Six adults, six students, and a one-year old devoted a long weekend in Hocking Hills, Ohio to intentional time together and trekking the wilderness. We committed to spending less time on our phones and more time together, and that was easily achieved through meals, hide-and-go seek, card games, and the power going out in our cabin.
One student, Kodie, said about the trip: “I kind of got back in touch with myself. I feel refreshed spending time in the woods and now I’m a heck of a lot more motivated to do school work.”
Our students came back from the trip tighter-knit and with a little more zest for life, willing to be present and spend time with people they care about.

O.D.G. (The Olive Dippers Guild)
The Olive Dippers Guild started from a desire to reward students who achieve more credits than what’s required of them, and push students who might think they’re unable to achieve that.
Each quarter, the students who meet the credit goal are rewarded with a unique and fun eating experience that is more out-of-the-ordinary for them. We encourage them to dress a little nicer and try something off the menu they don’t always try.
A.J. came to Kinwell with eight credits when he should have had 20. He met the requirements in his first two quarters by earning six total credits in half a year, compared to the eight he earned over two years. A.J. said about O.D.G. “I think it’s really cool that we get rewarded for our hard work and to spend time with teachers outside of school.”
